Covenant Faculty

Covenant has been blessed with teachers who are committed to the Lord and are gifted in teaching.  They love children, are passionate about teaching, and are bright and knowledgeable in their respective fields.

Grammar School Faculty  Debra Soehren - Kindergarten
Mrs. Soehren joined the Covenant staff in 2010.  She has an Associate Degree in Child Development and a Bachelor's Degree in Organizational Management with a minor in Economics from Illinois State University.  She has completed all course work towards her Master's Degree in Teaching, with a Language Arts Endorsement, from Trinity International University.  Mrs. Soehren has over twenty-five years of experience teaching at the pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and lower grammar school levels.  She and her husband are members of First Baptist Church in Wheaton, where she has taught Sunday School for over thirty years, serves as a deaconess and is on the Operations committee for the Church's preschool. 
Cassandra Kline - First Grade
Miss Kline has a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Indiana Wesleyan University with a minor in Spanish and an ESL Endorsement from National Louis University. Prior to joining the Covenant staff in 2014, she taught Kindergarten and ESL classes in the public school system for two years.  She also had prior experience with teaching Spanish to preschool students.  Miss Kline attends Harvest Bible Chapel in Naperville.

Kimberly Sceggel – Second Grade
Mrs. Sceggel joined the Covenant staff in 2011.  She has a Master’s Degree in Integrated Curriculum and Instruction from Covenant College in Georgia and a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Gordon College in Massachusetts.  She has over twenty-five years of experience teaching at the grammar school level in Christian schools.  She has also assisted in curriculum development and teacher training.  Mrs. Sceggel and her family attend Bethel Presbyterian Church in Wheaton, where she serves as the Sunday School Superintendent.


Alyssa Clements - Third Grade
Mrs. Clements has a B.A. in English Literature, with a minor in History, from Wheaton College. She has completed all course work for her Master of Arts in Teaching in Elementary Education from Wheaton College.  Prior to joining the Covenant faculty in 2014, Mrs. Clements served as a teacher’s aide in third grade in a Glen Ellyn school, and tutored first and second grade students in a Wheaton school.  Mrs. Clements attends First Baptist Church of Wheaton where she serves in the middle school ministry.

Jon Hravatic- Fourth Grade

Mr. Hravatic earned his Bachelor's Degree in General Science from the University of Michigan and his Master's Degree in Reading from Eastern Michigan University, where he also obtained teaching certifications at both the elementary and secondary levels. He has 28 years of experience teaching at the grammar school level, including six years of teaching at a classical Christian school in Michigan and over 10 years of teaching at an international Christian school in Kenya. Mr. Hravatic and his family attend Wheaton Bible Church.

Lorraine Egolf - Fifth Grade

Miss Egolf joined the Covenant faculty in 2014.  She has a B.A. in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics, with a minor in Literature, from The King’s College in New York City. She taught preschool at The Geneva School of Manhattan, where she also served as the school’s lead preschool teacher, responsible for curriculum development and training of new teachers. Miss Egolf has also volunteered for Operation Exodus Inner City, a ministry providing educational services for disadvantaged children, where she tutored children and developed the Bible curriculum. Miss Egolf enjoys attending College Church in Wheaton.   

Valerie Bromenschenkel- Grammar Latin
Mrs. Bromenschenkel joined the Covenant faculty in 2015. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in English from the University of North Carolina, where she also minored in Latin.  She also holds Master’s Degrees in Educational Leadership and in Youth Ministry from National Louis University and Huntington University, respectively.  Her work experience includes over 10 years of teaching Latin and English at the high school level.   She and her family attend Alleluia Lutheran Church in Naperville, where she currently serves as the Middle School and Children’s Ministry Director.  

 Logic & Rhetoric School Faculty

Connie Blair - Mathematics and Science
Miss Blair has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University, and has 12 years of experience working as an engineer in the environmental services industry.  She also has 4 years of experience as professional math and physical sciences tutor for middle school through college-age students.  Miss Blair joined the Covenant staff in 2015.  She currently attends Church of the Resurrection in Wheaton. Laura DeSoto - Science
Mrs. DeSoto has a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Wheaton College and is pursuing her Master’s Degree in Christian Formation Ministries.  She joined Covenant's staff in 2012, and has 4 years of experience teaching science, math, and Bible at former schools.  Mrs. DeSoto and her family attend the Compass Church in Wheaton.
Philip Evans- Bible, Logic
Mr. Evans received his Bachelor’s Degree in Bible/Biblical Language from Moody Bible Institute, and his Master’s Degree in Biblical Exegesis from Wheaton College.  Prior to joining the Covenant faculty in 2016, Mr. Evans taught Bible for four years at an international, Christian school in the Middle East. During that time he held the leadership roles of Bible Department Head and Lead High School Teacher. Mr. Evans and his family attend First Baptist Church in Wheaton. Rachel LoCascio - Humanities
Mrs. LoCascio has a Bachelor's Degree in English from the University of Leeds, UK and a Master's Degree in English Literature from the University of Victoria, British Columbia. She was a Graduate Exchange Scholar in the Department of English at the University of Illinois and also completed doctoral work as part of a University Fellowship in the School of Speech at Northwestern University.

Emily Phillips - Mathematics
Mrs. Phillips has a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics  from Wheaton College, where she served as the co-captain for both the track team and the cheerleading squad.  She has completed all of her coursework towards her Master's Degree in Education from Wheaton College and has served as a Teacher's Assistant in the Mathematics department at Wheaton College.  Mrs. Phillips has also tutored high school students in courses ranging from Algebra 1 through Calculus.  She and her husband currently attend Wheaton Bible Church where together, they lead an Alpha ministry group.    
Ryan Gregornik - History

Mr. Gregornik has a B.A. in History and a B.A. in Spanish from Wheaton College, where he graduated summa cum laude and was a recipient of the Scholastic Honor Society Scholarship.  He also holds a M.A. in History from the University of Alabama, where he worked as a graduate teaching assistant.  Mr. Gregornik has taught Spanish and Bible and coached girls' varsity basketball and junior varsity soccer.  He has also worked as a youth camp counselor at the Lake Geneva Youth Camp and Wheaton College's HoneyRock Camp. Mr. Gregornik attends College Church in Wheaton.  

Ryan Spice - Latin, Mathematics
Mr. Spice has a Bachelor's Degree in Ancient Languages from Wheaton College. He lived in Israel during his high school years and is fluent in Hebrew.  He has served as an office assistant in the Foreign Languages Department at Wheaton College and has tutored both high school and college students in Latin, Greek, and Hebrew.  He and his wife attend Church of the Resurrection in Wheaton and have been involved in short-term missions trips, the most recent being to Indonesia.
Deb Wieland – English
Mrs. Wieland has a Master of Arts in Teaching from National Louis University and experience in teaching Language Arts and Social Studies in area schools.  Prior to pursuing her passion for teaching, she received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Illinois and worked for several years in the corporate world.  Mrs. Wieland and her husband, attend Suburban Life Community Church in Darien, where they are members of the worship team.

Fine Arts Faculty Elizabeth Fuzak – Grammar and Logic School Art
Mrs. Fuzak has a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Northern Illinois University.  She has experience at the grammar school level in area public schools and over ten years of homeschooling experience. Mrs. Fuzak has served in her church as the Children’s Director and led the Drama Ministry and Creative Team. She and her family attend The Well church in Geneva.
Hannah Wood - Music 

Miss Wood earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Moody Bible Institute and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Northern Illinois University.  She also has an Orff Certification from the Vander Cook College of Music in Chicago.  Her teaching experience includes general music and choir instruction and experience as a private music instructor for piano, voice, and violin.  She spent several years teaching at the International Christian School of Budapest in Hungary, where she also established and conducted a flourishing middle school hand chime choir.  Miss Wood attends Christ Community Church in DeKalb.

After-Care Phinney website.jpg Camay Phinney - After-Care
Mrs. Phinney received her Bachelor's degree in Business Marketing from the University of Idaho and has worked in retail sales and management at both full-time and part-time capacities for over 20 years. In addition to raising her own four children, three of whom currently attend Covenant, she has cared for children as a toddler Sunday school teacher or nursery coordinator. She and her family currently attend Faith Bridge Church in West Chicago where she currently serves as a toddler Sunday school teacher.
